The Torres Strait Islands lie just north of Cape York, Australia's most northern point, and south of Papua New Guinea. This unique location creates a fusion of Melanesian and Australian Aboriginal cultures. The islands and the surrounding reefs provide diverse habitats for marine life including dugongs and sea turtles.
